In the full Finale you can access the measure number regions (via the Measure Tool), but I don't know whether Allegro has access to editing the measure number regions. The culprit is probably that the measure number region is set to 'Always Display on Top Staff', since 'Always Display on Top Staff' overrides the Staff Tool settings. So even if you succeed in hiding a measure number temporarily, it would not survive any.
